Therapist in Gaithersburg, MD
With Bradford Wolf, LCSW
I see clients in person at my office in Rockville, which is a straight shot down 355 from Gaithersburg. I also see people online anywhere in Maryland. A lot of my Gaithersburg clients do a bit of both.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker, and I work with individuals and couples.
Below, I’ll cover getting here, what people from Gaithersburg often come in with, what I work with, and when someone closer might be a better fit.
Getting here from Gaithersburg
My office is at 27 Wood Lane in Rockville, just off 355. Coming from Gaithersburg, you can take 355 or 270 south. Depending on the time of day, that’s either an easy drive or a frustrating one.
For most people, though, the drive isn’t really the problem. Time is. If you commute, you’re probably leaving early and getting home late, and by the time you walk in the door, the evening is already full. Adding a weekly appointment on top of that is a lot to ask.
That’s why a lot of people from Gaithersburg choose online sessions. They’re the same length and we do the same work. You just don’t have to get back in the car after a long day. Online therapy in Maryland explains how they work.
That said, some people like coming in. The drive gives them a little space between work and the session, and being in the room feels different than being on a screen. If that’s you, the office is there.
If you’re not sure which would work better, that’s a good thing to talk through on the free fifteen-minute consultation call.
What Gaithersburg tends to bring into the room
Gaithersburg is Upcounty, and if you live here, you’ve probably noticed that a lot of things, like specialists and appointments, seem to be somewhere else. Finding a therapist can feel that way too.
Days without much breathing room. Between the commute, work, and everything at home, there isn’t much left over. When something has to give, it’s usually the thing that’s just for you, and that’s often the thing that would help the most.
Being the first in your family to try therapy. If no one in your family has ever been to therapy, you don’t have anyone to ask what it’s like, what’s normal, or how long people usually go. Some people haven’t told their family they’re going, and that’s okay. It’s something we can talk about in the first session. You don’t need to have it figured out before you come in.
A trade that turned out harder than it looked. A lot of people moved out here for more space, better schools, or a bigger yard. That’s a reasonable choice, but it costs time, and the cost usually shows up in the evenings. It can be hard for either person to say out loud that it isn’t working the way they hoped.
What I work with
Individual therapy for anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, anger, trauma, addiction, and compulsive behavior. Each one has its own page that explains what the work looks like.
Couples therapy for relationships. I’m trained at Levels 1 and 2 in the Gottman Method, and that page walks through how the first sessions go and what they cost.
That’s not the whole list. If what you’re dealing with isn’t on it, just ask on the consultation call. I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m the right fit, and if I’m not, I’ll help you find someone who is.
When someone closer is the better answer
There are two situations where I’m probably not your best option, and I’d rather tell you now.
If the drive will eventually keep you from coming, a therapist in Gaithersburg is a better choice. This usually doesn’t show up in the first few weeks. It shows up later, once therapy stops feeling new and starts feeling like one more thing on the calendar. Going regularly matters more than who you see, so pick the option you’ll actually stick with.
If you need sessions while you’re in DC, I can’t do that. I’m licensed in Maryland and Virginia, and what counts is where you are during the session, not where you live. It doesn’t come up as often for people in Gaithersburg, but it does come up.
Common questions
-
No. My office is in Rockville, at 27 Wood Lane. Clients from Gaithersburg either come to the office or meet with me online, and a lot of people switch between the two depending on the week.
-
Unfortunately, no. I’m licensed in Maryland and Virginia, and the rule is based on where you are during the session. From home in Gaithersburg, or anywhere else in Maryland, we’re fine. From an office in DC, we’re not.
-
I’m out of network. The fees and FAQs page covers what sessions cost, how reimbursement works, and what to ask your insurance company.
