Online Therapist for Arlington, VA
With Bradford Wolf, LCSW
I see clients in Arlington by video. I’m licensed in Virginia, and my practice is in Rockville, Maryland, so my sessions with Virginia clients happen online.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker, and I work with individuals and couples.
Below, I’ll cover how sessions work from Arlington, what people here often bring to therapy, what I work with, and when someone else might be a better fit.
How sessions work from Arlington
Sessions are by video. They’re the same length as an in-person session, and we do the same work.
If your workday is across the river in DC, the one thing to plan around is where you are when we meet. A lot of my Arlington clients book early in the morning, in the evening, or on a day they work from home, so they’re in Virginia not D.C.. Online therapy in Virginia explains the rule if you want the details.
If you’re not sure how this would fit your week, that’s a good thing to talk through on the free fifteen-minute consultation call.
What Arlington tends to bring to therapy
Arlington is home to the Pentagon, and that shapes what some people want to talk about.
A career that moves you. Orders, reassignments, a spouse’s next posting. When you’re not sure you’ll be in the same place next year, it’s hard to start something that takes a few months to help. Because we meet online and I’m licensed in both Virginia and Maryland, a move within either state doesn’t mean starting over with someone new.
Wondering who’ll find out. If you hold a security clearance, you might be worried that seeing a therapist could cost you. It’s a fair worry, and the real answer is better than most people expect. The Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, which runs clearance investigations, reviewed more than 7.7 million cases from 2013 to 2023. It found that none of the denials or revocations were only for getting mental health care. In [its own words], seeking support “does not pose a risk to gaining or keeping a national security clearance.” What can cause trouble is letting things get to a crisis, which is one more reason not to wait. I’m a therapist, not a clearance attorney, so if you have a question about your own case, your security officer is the right person to ask.
What I work with
Individual therapy for anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, anger, trauma, addiction, and compulsive behavior. Each one has its own page that explains what the work looks like.
Couples therapy for relationships. I’m trained at Levels 1 and 2 in the Gottman Method, and that page walks through how the first sessions go and what they cost.
That’s the whole list. If what you’re dealing with isn’t on it, just ask on the consultation call. I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m the right fit, and if I’m not, I’ll help you find someone who is.
When someone closer is the better answer
There are two situations where I’m probably not your best option, and I’d rather tell you now.
If you want to meet in person in Arlington, a local therapist will suit you better. I only see Virginia clients online. If being in the same room matters to you, that’s a good reason to look closer to home.
If you’d be in DC during our sessions, it won’t work. I’m not licensed in DC, and what counts is where you are when we meet, not where you live.
Common questions
-
No. I see Virginia clients online. My practice is in Rockville, Maryland.
-
Not from your office in DC, because I’m not licensed there. From home in Arlington, or anywhere else in Virginia or Maryland, it’s fine. The online therapy in Virginia page lays out the whole rule.
-
I’m out of network. The fees and FAQs page covers what sessions cost, how reimbursement works, and what to ask your insurance company.
